Vehicle Description Without a doubt, 1970 was a watershed year for BMW motorcycles.
Having turned its focus to the automotive group throughout the 1960s, BMW's motorcycles were burdened with styling and engineering roots that dated back to the 1940s.
Although the R series motorcycles had enjoyed technical advances along the way, they appeared to be anything but modern in a world that had welcomed the Honda CB750K0.
Then came the BMW R75/5 motorcycle.
Boasting an all-new motor, though retaining the signature horizontally opposed pushrod flat twin configuration, the R75/5 was virtually a new machine.
The wholly redesigned motor had everything from new cylinder heads to a repositioned camshaft.
Styling was suitably contemporary, making the BMW R75/5 a landmark machine.
- Ultimate Motorcycling This 1973 BMW R75/5 is in very good condition, with less than 3,500 miles since a factory quality restoration.
The Black paint shows well with no visual defects besides a small patch of micro-blisters visual on the gas tank that can be seen in certain lighting (can be seen in photos).
The toaster side panels add the classic R75/5 image.
The 745cc engine has been fully rebuilt, during that time slightly oversized pistons were added.
It comes to a quick kick start and idles smoothly.
The 4-speed transmission shifts well.
The drum brakes bring the bike to a quick stop.
The wheel base was extended 50mm in the factory to reduce wobble seen in previous models and extended the riders space between there shins and the Bing carburetors.
This 1973 BMW R75/5 is an affordable option to ride a classic BMW motorcycle or to extend your motorcycle collection.
